Our Environment

One of the biggest challenges facing the Earth today is the fate of our planet. Over the centuries people have taken the natural resources that the Earth provides for granted. We have ignored the concern for the air, water, soil and trees and have abused these resources. We have always enjoyed these resources and have assumed that they would always be there for us. However, we have found that since we have ignored our abuse of these natural resources, our planet is starting to suffer.

Over the course of time we have cut down trees for paper products and have not replaced them at a fast-enough pace. We have also dumped items and chemicals into our ponds and streams. This has contaminated these bodies of water which can find its way into our water supply which has caused concern about the safety of our drinking water.

Another major problem is that of pollution. In addition to the issues pertaining to water pollution, we also need to be concerned about air pollution and land pollution. For many years our motor vehicles and manufacturing facilities have produced pollution that goes into the air. This pollution is breathed in by people and animals and could be hazardous to your health. Also, people have been careless in handling trash, and many have just thrown them into the environment.

So, with all of the problems we are having with the environment, what can we do? The best thing you can do is be considerate of the environment and the Earth. For example, don’t litter. Instead, dispose of your trash properly in the appropriate container. And, whenever possible try to recycle. Paper, glass and other items are now able to be recycled into reusable items.

We have made some progress in protecting the environment, but we have a long way to go to overcome centuries of abuse of our planet. But, if everyone does the right thing and becomes aware of the problems of the environment and tries to be considerate, we will continue to make progress.
